The Barns Cottage is a property on the Earl of Plymouth’s Estate. It had been unoccupied for 6 years and had never been updated. I built two new extensions on the property using the closest brick I could find to match the original. We had to construct blue brick arches over windows using traditional skills with a blue brick sill to match the existing. The existing property needed a new roof, new ground floors, the external walls were completely lined out with insulation to bring it up to current regulations. We had to remove a load bearing wall to create a larger kitchen/diner. We had to relocate the staircase, I commissioned a new one from a local joinery shop. The joinery shop also made new hardwood external doors and windows. We then began on the plastering, tiling, plumbing, central heating, electrics, carpentry, decoarating and the fitting of a new kitchen. I worked closely with the Estate and their Architect in bringing back to life this old house. After seven months of work the property has achieved it’s full potential and is a beautiful country residence.
